Keeping Fit After

These are the long-term nutrition and exercise habits that the Operation Tone-Up program helps to instill:

  • Exercise at least 3 days per week.
  • Enjoy other physical activity (walking, bike riding, sports) at least 1 hour, 5 days per week.
  • Read and understand the Nutrition Facts label on the foods you CHOOSE to eat.
  • Drink at least 6 to 8 glasses of water each day.
  • Eat smaller meals more often and STOP when you are comfortable, not stuffed.
  • Eat at least 5 servings of fresh fruit and vegetables every day.
  • Limit TV and video game time.
  • Minimize soda, fast food, chips, sugary cereals and foods high in fat and salt.

After the 10-week program, teachers can have their students continue with regular Operation Tone-Up exercises to maintain fitness levels, and can review nutrition information as needed. For students in states with statewide fitness testing, Operation Tone-Up also provides guidelines for special training to prepare for the state fitness test.
